The people of Cullar have known for years that their municipal swimming pool is a privileged place for rest, leisure and refreshment when the hot summer days arrive. The recreational complex, which has the evocative name of Los lagos de quitasueños, has two very large circular swimming pools with crystal clear water, surrounded by natural grass, and all the necessary services to spend an unforgettable day in the open air.
Now they want to share it with the rest of the people of Granada and the inhabitants of neighbouring provinces. To this end, the town council of Cúllar has produced a promotional video which was presented today by its mayor, Alonso Segura, whose production had the economic collaboration of the Patronato Provincial de Turismo through the programmes of Concertación de la Diputación de Granada.
At a press conference, Alonso Segura explained that "Los Lagos de Quitasueños, as well as a swimming pool, is a complete tourist resource in the heart of the Granada Geopark. The site also has a supply point for motorhomes, a picnic area, a children's playground, a cave where different cultural activities take place and an excellent restaurant, where you can taste traditional and typical dishes of the region and contemporary cuisine specialities. It also has a large sports area, with the municipal football pitch and a tennis court".
After a year in which prudence made it necessary to keep the facilities closed, given the epidemiological situation, in 2021 it has already opened its doors and will be available to bathers throughout the summer, complying with all hygiene and sanitary measures.
The provincial deputy for Tourism in Granada, Enrique Medina, has encouraged "all the people of Granada to take a trip to Cúllar, to enjoy the tourist attractions of the municipality, the spectacular landscapes of the Geopark of Granada and the cave hotels in the area. And of course, the municipal swimming pool and all the services it offers. Medina announced that the Provincial Tourist Board will lend its support to the Town Hall so that the new promotional video reaches as many people as possible through social networks and the media.
The two extensive pools together occupy a surface area of around 7,000 square metres and have a maximum capacity of 1.200 people, which may be reduced this summer if health circumstances require it. Three lifeguards are on duty at all times to ensure the safety of bathers.
The councillor for Tourism in Cúllar, Abel Castillo, emphasises that "The lakes of Quitasueños are a first class attraction at regional level and since their inauguration they have had an average of 20,000 visitors each season. The space has become a reference point for summer recreation, where you can enjoy a refreshing swim, a wonderful meal, a concert, a play, immerse yourself in reading, learn about the environment, play sports and even get close to the stars on the astronomy days that are organised".
Within the facilities, special mention should be made of La cueva de los cuentos, a museum space dedicated to children's stories. It is managed by the Colorín Colorado association, which enables the young and the not so young to live an immersive experience in the field of reading and imagination.
Shading the swimming pool area with pleasant shadows and open spaces, it also has , called The Forest of Books.
And one of the main sports infrastructures of Cúllar is also located within the complex: the Cayetano Lorca football stadium, equipped with artificial turf and home to the local club, lends itself to all kinds of sporting or cultural activities.
